Agenda for Joint Session on Cybersecurity Coordination Project

Wednesday, July 19, 9:00 – 12:30

Background:

The Open Group Executive team has asked that we begin a Cybersecurity Coordination Project within The Open Group. Oversight of this project will be provided by Dave Lounsbury. He has delegated the project lead to Sally Long. There are two primary goals for this project:

1) To see where we can work more effectively together to address some of the cybersecurity work areas that might be relevant to multiple forums. (Many forums are already doing this in some joint task groups, but this project will look at whether we should expand and coordinate our collaborative efforts more holistically.)
2) To determine The Open Group’s current cybersecurity landscape in terms of the standards and best practices we offer across the forums, and compare that view against a more complete cybersecurity landscape to determine the gaps. We will evaluate which gaps are most valuable to fill by evolving current deliverables, developing new deliverables, or align with other SDOs who may also be working on the gaps. This effort should result in a more complete and compelling cyber-security story, one that will hopefully attract new members and bring additional cybersecurity subject matter expertise.”

Cybersecurity Coordination Project Timeline:

June 1: Survey/Worksheet sent to members to solicit input on existing cybersecurity related areas within their forums and to add any other cybersecurity areas that would be valuable to the industry, their company, or their customers and on which they’d be willing to work.

Friday, June 9: Input due and consolidated

Tuesday, June 13: First Prioritization Exercise: Send survey/worksheet back to  members, this time to conduct a prioritization exercise of the consolidated cybersecurity activities.
Tuesday, June 27: Prioritization responses due back for analysis and to ascertain the high priority cybersecurity areas identified by members.**

**This analysis will be used as input to the Joint Session in Ottawa.

Objective for the Joint Session in Ottawa:

Identify the High Priority Activities from the Cybersecurity Coordination prioritization activity and refine their description sufficiently for an organization to understand what it is the proposed activity/deliverable will provide and the business value that is associated with it.

Agenda for the Joint Session in Ottawa: Wednesday, 9:00 – 12:30

9:00 - 9:15: Introduction of the Cybersecurity Coordination Project

9:15 – 9:45: Feedback on the High Priority Activities**

9:45 – 10:30: Refine High Priority Activities

n  Refine descriptions

n  Draft value propositions

n  Discuss whether prioritized activities appear to be company-wide or correlated among particular forums

10:30 – 11:00:  Break

11:00 – 12:00:  Continue to Refine High Priority Activities

12:00 – 12:30:  Wrap up: Identify Next Steps, Issues, Actions, etc.

Desired Outcome:

The goal, after the high prioritized items are refined during this joint session, is to conduct a final prioritization exercise/survey, based only on the high prioritized items that are refined during this joint session.  The results of that final prioritization exercise will serve as input to the recommendations to the Executive team.
